Laura Omacini. Barricades

From November 16, 2024, to January 12, 2025, the Museo Civico di Bassano del Grappa hosts an exhibition dedicated to Laura Omacini, one of the most promising contemporary Italian painters. Titled Laura Omacini. Barricades, the exhibition is a journey through paintings and drawings that explore the fragility of our time with a poetic and introspective approach.

The Artist: A Journey into Introspection

Born in Venice in 1991, Laura Omacini has already exhibited in numerous notable solo and group shows. Her works have been displayed in prestigious venues such as Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa (2020 and 2021), CRAG Gallery in Turin (2021), the International Gallery of Modern Art at Ca’ Pesaro (2022), and Marignana Arte in Venice (2023). Omacini’s artistic journey is defined by a constant search for balance between strength and delicacy, a tension that finds expression in her works on paper and canvas alike.

The Exhibition: A Synthesis of Strength and Fragility

Barricades presents a series of medium-sized paintings and drawings on paper, inspired by the graphic traditions of the hosting museum. Omacini’s paper works, rendered with great sensitivity, convey poetic content through layers and delicate atmospheres, transforming fine details into representations of humanity.

Her canvases portray spaces and environments through an introspective lens; the layered details on their surfaces evoke a sense of an unstable and delicate reality. The architectural frameworks, scaffolding, and solitary spaces that populate her works serve as metaphors for expressing the unease and vulnerability of our present. The drawings created for the exhibition, titled Portrait, are true “social portraits,” where architecture becomes a key to exploring human interiority and reflecting a need for care in an era marked by profound uncertainties.

A Project Born from the Partnership with ArtVerona

Barricades stems from a collaboration between the Civic Museums of Bassano del Grappa and ArtVerona, through the PremioArteMuseo, which supports the artistic journey of selected young talents. Established in 2023, this project provides emerging artists with an opportunity to engage in dialogue with cultural institutions and the public.
